Attachment informed therapy seeks to repair ruptures in relationships to develop and strengthen emotional security, particularly within the parent-child dyad. According to attachment theory, a secure attachment develops when parents are sensitive to the needs of their children and consistently available. Family systems draws its view of the family as an emotional unit, suggesting behavior is often informed by and inseparable from the functioning of one’s family of origin.

Couples therapy aims to equip couples with the tools necessary to relate to each other in healthier ways and develop shared meaning. Interventions are designed to increase intimacy, respect, affection, empathy, remove barriers that create heightened conflict or stagnancy, and replace negative conflict patterns with positive interactions. Therapy explores the idealized concept of familiar love that an individual develops during childhood and what behaviors/patterns are getting played out in adulthood to obtain love and stay emotionally safe.
